About us

The Goa – Center for Alternative Photography is an artist initiated conservative art space dedicated exclusively to photography and aims to become professional and comprehensive platform for the promotion of alternative photography Art in India.

The Objectives

Through exhibitions, education programs, publications, programs for artists, as well as independent events and engagements, we aim to:

– Pursue an ongoing programme of allied research into original historic process and material technologies.

– Work towards establishing national and international standards and ethical guidelines for the preservation, conservation and restoration treatment, storage and exhibition of photographic materials.

– Promote alternative photography in all its diverse forms as an “art form”, a socio-historic document and a cultural artifact.

– Strengthen the art institute’s in India in order to improve their capacity in both theoretical and practical areas of alternative photography

– Create old knowledge, apply ancient approaches to photography art and arts education, open up new avenues of exchange, and transfer the results in order to facilitate cooperation among other art

– Encourage members of the public and the greater photography communities to be part of the growth of this collaborative movement

– Initiate various forms of creative activities in alternative photography production or arts education that respond to the different needs of the participating art institutes

– Organize a meeting place for artists, researchers and institutions within and outside India which deal with practices, studies and research on various aspects of Photography

– Establish programs for the identification and recording, by means of data banks and other archival, documentary and other means, of the assets and materials related to photography, for their assessment, restoration and preservation whether at home or abroad, and recovery and retrieval of those that are lost or scattered.
